Frequently asked questions

When is a simple power of attorney not enough?
Germany: real estate transactions require notarial recording, and a privately written power of attorney does not suffice for them — BGB § 311b Abs. 1 S. 1, as of 2002. Austria: selling, loans, collecting money, litigation and settlements need a special power naming the type of transaction — ABGB § 1008, as of 1812. Spain: selling or mortgaging requires an express mandate — Código Civil art. 1713, as of 1889.
Can I revoke a power of attorney at any time?
Usually yes, but with differences. Austria: revocation is possible at any time but can trigger reimbursement of costs and a share of the remuneration — ABGB § 1020, as of 1812. Cyprus: after partial exercise, revocation is excluded for acts and obligations already arisen — Contract Law, Cap. 149 s. 164, as of 2026. France: revocation is possible at any time, and the agent can be compelled to return the instrument — Code civil art. 2004, as of 1804.
Which law applies to a cross-border power of attorney?
The parties can in principle choose the applicable law freely — Regulation (EC) No 593/2008 (Rome I) Art. 3(1), as of 2009. Whether an agent can bind the principal towards third parties is excluded from that scope, and national conflict-of-laws rules apply — Regulation (EC) No 593/2008 (Rome I) Art. 1(2)(g), as of 2009. If all other elements are located in another country, the choice of law may not prejudice that country’s mandatory provisions — Regulation (EC) No 593/2008 (Rome I) Art. 3(3), as of 2009.
What form does a power of attorney need in Portugal if a notary is required?
It may be made as a public instrument, as a written document with in-person certification of handwriting and signature, or as an authenticated document — Código do Notariado art. 116.º, n.º 1, as of 1995.
What does the document cover?
The template consists of these sections: Power of Attorney; Scope of the Authority; Limits; Place, Date and Signature.

Why DUOLEXX instead of just asking an AI?

An AI writes text fast. That doesn't make it legally sound, bilingual and ready to sign. That's exactly the difference.

Grounded in local law

Every document follows the law of the chosen country — researched clauses, not a generic template from the web.

Authoritative language + translation

The binding version in the legal language, alongside an understandable translation. A chat rarely delivers both, soundly, at once.

Verifiable signature

Two-party signature with a SHA-256 integrity proof — provable that both signed the same wording.

Finished, not just text

PDF, signature, archive and share link in one flow — an AI chat only hands back raw text.
